DJ SPOTLIGHT: SEDATION
We’d like to introduce you to SEDATION – Alec Sedate
Tell us how you got started—what sparked your journey into DJing/producing?
My friend reignited my love for EDM that I had in my childhood and earlier teen years and inspired me into believing I can pursue producing and DJing if that’s truly what I wanted to do.
Anyone is truly capable of becoming a talented producer or DJ with the same consistency you show any job, skill, or hobby. Overall I have only been producing for a year and a half and mixing for two and a half years, and it has been a wild ride.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your brand or artistry?
I personally take a lot of pride in the articulation I put behind my production and the high standard I hold myself to. I’m always trying to best myself from before and improve every time I get behind the decks or DAW. I am proud of the growth I have made in such a short period of time actually chasing this dream I only just realized I was capable of.
What goals are you chasing right now as an artist?
Sharing my music, making new connections, trying to collaborate with other talented passionate artists that I look up to for inspiration.
One day playing festivals and playing alongside some of my favorite artists and even close friends that work alongside me growing the same way I am.
Any mixes, tracks, or recent releases you’d like people to hear?
Wobble – My collaboration with MINDG4ME, which became my most successful track to date
Shot Clock – My next release with Ten Hut Collective, dropping this month
Reefers (WIP) – An unreleased collab with Senna, currently being submitted to labels
RIBS (WIP) – Unfinished, but I really love the second drop; reworking the first half
UBBI DJ MIX – Submitted to the Ubbi DJ contest. Didn’t make it to voting, but I still think it slaps

What’s the most memorable crowd moment you’ve had in the Dallas scene?
One girl busted her lip open doing the worm to one of my drops. She was okay! But also going really hard.
If you could back‑to‑back with any Dallas DJ tomorrow, who would it be and what genre would you play?
Dallas DJ imma be cheeky and say Gunpoint, and I would play my favorite tracks, doubles, and originals that I've curated over time.
Mostly accommodating to Gunpoint’s expected crowd and what sound that crowd would be most excited to hear—Dubstep, Trap, Rap, a little feely section that’s also really sick, a couple fun bass/experimental switch-ups to keep ‘em on their toes, and always keep a for-sure banger at least 2 transitions away.
Best advice you’ve gotten from another artist?
Making music is a marathon, not a sprint.
Plus, if you’re in it for the right reasons and passion mixed with discipline, you will inevitably find yourself creating more and more until one day you get to something you like and are proud of.
How do you discover new music to keep your sets fresh?
SoundCloud is the GOAT. Always check what your favorite artist is liking on their page and check out who they listen to.
Also just sharing music with friends—I’ll send a banger I found and they’ll send one right back. The SoundCloud algorithm is surprisingly solid for discovery too.
I will say it time and time again: I love that music is a bottomless pit that always has something new to come from it—whether it be something you made, a friend made, or your new favorite artist. There is always a new tune around the corner!
