DJ SPOTLIGHT: RECKLESS1
We’d like to introduce you to RECKLESS1 – Ross Cardona
Tell us how you got started—what sparked your journey into DJing/producing?
My best friend had a set of turntables when we were in middle school—we used to party in his garage on weekends, and he would DJ jungle/drum & bass. On my 18th birthday (now 20 years ago), my friends took me to Lizard Lounge for Planet of the Drums! After that night, all I wanted to do was go clubbing, and five years later, I started DJing in my one-bedroom apartment.
Another best friend brought over some DJ equipment (Numark CDJX—hybrids of turntables and CD players). He left them at my house, and over that weekend I taught myself how to DJ. When he came back, I showed him what I’d learned and he was in complete shock. I wasn’t good, but I could beatmatch and transition to the next track.
Over time I kept improving and started getting opportunities to play at small bars, then clubs and after-hours parties, and eventually traveled out of state to play different venues. Now, 15 years later, I’m still doing what I love and continuing to teach myself how to produce. Along the way, I’ve also made a few mashups and edits.

What’s the most memorable crowd moment you’ve had in the Dallas scene?
I’d have to say opening for SVDDEN DEATH—it was a 90-minute set! I dropped a collab edit that was made with my fiancé Kourtney, and it was such a good feeling hearing everyone’s reaction!
