We’d like to introduce you to Baby Icey - Christian Pena.
Baby Icey, please share how you got started as we would love to know more about your story!
-So I got the name Baby Icey around freshman year of high school from when me and my friend were rapping on beats we downloaded from YouTube as a joke. We never really meant to take it seriously, we were just having fun with it. I got that name because I have this YouTube channel where I post NBA edits called “Icey Prod.” So I just took the Icey part and added the Baby to it since everyone would always say I have a babyface. I put out 6 mixtapes from 2016 - 2021 with a total of like 70ish songs. I deleted most of them and put all the most popular songs into a compilation album as a sort of farewell to that part of my life.
Since 4th grade I’ve been obsessed with EDM, especially dubstep. It was always a dream of mine to play huge festivals and shows and it wasn't until I started raving in 2021 when I actually started pursuing that dream. My father was a DJ so I’ve always been familiar with DJ equipment and mixing. I finally built the courage to go to an open decks hosted by HAM and met so many friends and acquaintances and from those relationships, it got me to where I am today. I’m super grateful to be doing this and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your brand?
-I’m really proud of the fan base I have built over the years. Especially the OG ones who are still supporting me after the genre switch. All the love and support I receive is surreal to me and seeing people enjoy the music I put out really does motivate me to do bigger and better things not only for me, but for those who support me. As cliche as it sounds, without them and the support they’ve shown, I definitely would not be in the position I am in today.
What are your goals as an artist?
-Some of my goals include playing out of state shows, headlining a show, putting out a full length album, and creating a supportive and loving fanbase.
Any mixes and/or songs you would like to share?
-I recently put out a couple of riddim songs which have been blowing up on TikTok!
