DJ SPOTLIGHT: Reckless Ryan
We’d like to introduce you to Reckless Ryan – Ryan Butler
Tell us how you got started—what sparked your journey into DJing/producing?
YouTube. I wasn’t searching for EDM—I stumbled into it. One video led to another, and suddenly I was deep in the world of EDM. The sounds, the movement, it was things I had never heard before. I wanted to do more than just listen. I wanted to create. That’s when everything shifted. I started experimenting, learning, pushing buttons until the chaos turned into something real. Producing became the obsession, DJing became the way to bring it to life. I literally have learned almost everything I know from Producing and DJing, from people I have never met before and likely never will. It's still insane to me when I think about it.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your brand or artistry?
Longevity. This journey started all the way back in 2010 and hasn’t just been about making and playing music—it’s been about building something that lasts, something that resonates with Dallas itself. I’ve been blessed to be part of so many incredible shows and work with so many companies that have helped shape my artistry. Every performance, every collaboration, every opportunity has been a testament to the dedication and passion behind this brand. To still be standing after 15 years, I’m still pushing boundaries, and still evolving and there’s nothing more rewarding than that.
What goals are you chasing right now as an artist?
Right now, my focus as an artist is locked in on three things.
First, producing music that pushes boundaries—finding that next sound, that next energy, and refusing to play it safe.
Second, every time I step on stage, I’m aiming to put on the best set of the night. No matter who’s performing, my goal is to deliver a set worthy of the hard earned money and time spent from every single person at that venue. From the first person in the doors, to the last cleaner that goes home baby!
And third, I want to put Dallas on the map—showing the world the talent, grit, and energy this city has to offer. I’ve always dedicated myself to trying to put on talent in this city. From the podcasts and radio shows I've done, to featuring artists on my tracks, I show love for my city any chance I can.
Any mixes, tracks, or recent releases you’d like people to hear?
I just released a new track called: “Nirvana” on May 16th. It’s out on all music platforms. This isn’t polished—it’s raw, relentless, and real.
This track showcases a new style and some of the new sounds I’ve been working on and I have Dallas rapper and long-time friend Rodger D on the vocals! Rodger D and I have worked on projects for over a decade together, and we have many more planned to come out over the next few years as well!

What’s the most memorable crowd moment you’ve had in the Dallas scene?
Seeing Excision in 2011 on his debut headlining tour: The X Tour. This was the first ever EDM show I had been to and it's probably still the best show I’ve ever been to. Me and my friend skipped school, got to the venue 8 hours before the doors opened and waited outside to make sure we were the first people and we got front row dead center and didn’t move the entire night from that spot haha. It’s a memory I will never forget.
If you could back‑to‑back with any Dallas DJ tomorrow, who would it be and what genre would you play?
Casie Farrell. Casie is one of the best DJ’s in the entire state, let alone Dallas and possibly the kindest out of any of us. I think a Farrell & Reckless Techno set would be pure, unrelenting chaos!
Best advice you’ve gotten from another artist?
Enjoy the ride.
Life is insane and this scene is nothing short of that as well haha but you just gotta sit back and enjoy the ride. Enjoy the small moments, enjoy the small crowds and playing open decks and just being in this. So many of us get jaded and feel like we deserve more or a certain gig or time slot. At the end of the day, we’re just playing the music we love to people who also love this music and we just need to sit back, and enjoy the ride baby!
How do you discover new music to keep your sets fresh?
Constant digging. SoundCloud, Hypeddit, Spotify, Beatport. If you can’t find new music from those 4 sites, I really don’t know what to tell ya big dawg!
Also, support ya local homies!! Play out their new releases!
